Real. Beautiful. Photography.

I’m just taking a moment to sit back and count my blessings. I’ve spent the last 8 hours doing some long-overdue updating on my website.  In updating my site, I got to spend a little time re-living some of the best, most beautiful days of so many amazing people and their families. My clients! Oh how I love them. When I’ve run into former bridesmaids at the grocery store, they don’t always remember me, but I have spent so much time editing wedding photos, I never forget a bridal party face!

Let me tell you, the best day of my adult life was my wedding. I’d be lying if I didn’t admit to loving being a part of so many wonderful weddings, because I KNOW how special that day is. I know how long it takes to plan a wedding. I know that your Grandmother is very special to you, because mine was to me. And I am so happy that my clients trust me and believe in me. I believe in them too, in their vision and their family ties. I don’t take it lightly that, by taking photos of weddings, I am a small part of the family legacy, creating heirloom photos that I believe will pass the test of time. Not overly trendy, not too posed. Just real. Real beautiful. Real emotion. Real families. Real photography.

Serendipity Magazine September Issue – feature story on Greenwich, CT gardens!

I’m excited to share a few selections from the ten pages Serendipity recently published of my Greenwich, Connecticut garden tour photos.  Serendipity’s Creative Director, Lisa Meipala Kennedy, and I hiked through the gardens after an early morning rain storm to discover whimsical plantings and amazing architectural notes. Many other garden ‘tourists’ were enjoying the garden inspiration as well. I love it when a shoot is both educational and inspiring for my own life and garden!

Anne & Rob’s Mystic Seaport, Connecticut Wedding

Congratulations to Anne & Rob on their beautiful wedding day. (I am still not sure how they commissioned a full rainbow during the cocktail hour, but it was just the icing on the cake for their gorgeous, heartfelt day with family and friends.)

Trish & Zach’s Anchorage, Alaska Wedding

A large portion of my family on my mother’s side lives in Alaska, and I had the pleasure of shooting my cousin’s son’s wedding in Anchorage this year. This was my husband’s first ever trip to Alaska, so we planned a two week trip, packed our cameras and wetsuits, and headed for the great Northwest!  The highlight was, of course, the wedding and all the time we spent with extended family, but we also found time to make new friends and take an adventure on an amazing surf boat, the M/V MILO out of Homer. I will post photos about that later. For now, here is a portrait of Zach and his new bride Trish, just returning from their ceremony at the historic Captain Cook Hotel in downtown Anchorage.

Lea & Michael’s NYC City Hall Wedding

Lea & Michael were married in March at City Hall in downtown NYC. This is one of my my favorite candid moments from their day!

Casey and Ben’s Bridgehampton Tennis & Surf Club Wedding

The morning of their wedding, Ben surfed with the guys in Montauk and Casey hosted yoga with the ladies. The day started relaxed, had some poignantly emotional moments throughout, & ended with a raucous party!  Congrats Casey and Ben on your perfect day!

Wrangling two year olds- no one said it would be easy!

Jen, Eli, big brother Zack and new baby Leo met me for an afternoon of portraits in the little park near their apartment.  I have to admit, babies are SO MUCH easier to photograph! Convincing Zack to join us for photos was quite the comedy, and we spent much of our time negotiating with him, trying to cajole him (dare I say trick him?) into the photos! A fun time was had by all.

Personal Projects

I’m taking a class right now at ICP, titled The Narrative Portrait. Amy Arbus is the instructor, and she’s guiding 12 or so of us through personal photographic journeys, giving hard critiques and opening our minds to better visual storytelling. The ongoing assignment is to photograph one subject over a ten week period, and I have chosen my Grandmother. She will be turning 95 in March and lives about an hour and a half away, in East Northport on Long Island. She graciously accepted my proposal to be my model & subject, and unfortunately I am missing this week’s photo session due to an ill-timed blizzard. Such is life, I suppose; I can control a lot of things, but the weather is not one of them!  Here are a few pictures from my previous session with my Grandmother.

Cardon Adventure Resort, Celestino, Mexico

For Thanksgiving, Brian and I took off to Mexico for surf, rest, relaxation, & margaritas. We stayed at the amazing Cardon Adventure Resort on the recommendation of our friend and shaper, Chris Birch. A resort with only eight guestrooms, we were at the tail end of the high season, and we had the entire place to ourselves, including the perfect left hand point break out front. We could check the waves without even getting out of bed!  We also were able to help release baby turtles back into the ocean – the eggs had been saved from poachers and allowed to hatch safely in a program in the town of Celestino, sponsored in part by the Mexican government and also Cardon Resort. Helping these little guys scramble down the beach and swim off through the shore break was breathtaking!

Handmade Albums & Boxes by Cypress

I am so excited to have recently started working with Cypress Albums on custom proof boxes and albums. Their custom handmade silk boxes are gorgeous, and they do beautiful embossing as well. The boxes below make lovely keepsakes – I love having the date included; it turns this beautiful object into mini time capsule.
